Analysis of beam hardening process on computed tomography(CT) images has been accomplished. The research object used in wasouter layer of computed tomography images obtained from the 64 multi-slice CT. A standard phantom consits of water, acrylic, lexan, Teflon, polyethylene, copper wire and aluminum strip scanned using three mAs/slice variation value i.e. 400/259, 64/92, 67/105. CT image results obtained indicate beam hardening process occurs when phantom was scanned with the highest value of mAs / slice, 400/259. The process of hardening occurs because the beam of x-rays of low energy will be mainly absorbed by tissues compared to high-energy x-ray (hard x-ray). Beam hadening artifact occurs caused by the non-linear relationship between the coefficient of attenuation and measured projection value.Beam hardening analysis is important because if there a beam hardeningartifact in CT image, it can lead to misdiagnosis which has fatal consequences for the safety of pasien. Good quality CT image is very important so doctors can perform patientdiagnosis appropriately. |
