This experimental study aimed to look into the possibility of utilizing natural rubber with steel reinforcement as a structural element. The focus of the experiment was to investigate the bonding strength between the rubber and the reinforcing steel through pull test. Three testing specimens were made of pale crepe rubber according to ACSI. The rubber specimens were cast in a mold made of 0.6 cm thick steel. The dimension of the mold was 6 cm x 10 cm x 40 cm. Deformed reinforcing steel bar was embedded at the center of the cross-sectional area of the rubber. The steel was subjected to pull on a pulling test apparatus. Displacement of the steel was measured by a dial gauge. Analysis on the bonding strength and the development length were made based on the pulling load occurring at 0.25 mm displacement. The result of the analysis revealed that the average bonding strength between the rubber and steel was 0.3492 MPa. The calculation of the development length for the rubber and steel used in this experiment according to the guideline stipulated in SNI-91 resulted in n factor equal to 12.06. This led to the conclusion that the bonding strength between the reinforcing steel and rubber was below that of reinforcing steel and concrete. |
