A series experiments have been conducted to study the flexural strength characteristics of concrete panels made of Portland Cement enriched with sugar cane fiber, the waste product of sugar factory, which is known to have an appreciable tensile strength properties but has not been much utilized to enhance the flexural characteristics of concrete. Concrete panels of dimension 30 x 15 x 2 cm2 composed of fiber-cement mixture with dry weight ratios of 50 : 1000, 100 : 1000, and 150 : 1000 were centrically loaded in compression machine to observe the flexural strength of the panels. The same tests were conducted on Portland Cement-sugar cane panels which have been enriched with SikaCim bonding adhesive during the mixing process to observe the effect of adhesive material on the flexural strength of the specimens. The same specimen dimensions were cast, having fiber-adhesive-cement compositions of 50 : 50 : 1000. 100 : 100 : 1000, and 150 : 150 :1000. Result from the experiments revealed that concrete panels which have been made by adding sugar cane fibers having maximum length of 1 cm into the mixture showed the highest flexural strength. The test result also showed that the addition of SikaCim bonding adhesive in the concrete mixture did not increase the flexural strength of the concrete panels significantly, and hence can considered to be not an effective additive for the purpose. |
