Abstract

A dam was a building that always related to the water. A dam that was not planned well towards water pressure under it would causes its functional disadvantages and its surroundings buildings. This researchs was aimed to know water pressure height behaviour and dam leakage,and compared a theoretical calculation result by a flow net and a direct reading. A model device made of acrylic mica size 90 x 25 x 70 cm filled with sand and water. Dam demonstrator made of 1st grade keruing (Dipterocarpus) wood with 50 cm length,31 cm upper height, and 27 cm lower height. The test conducted was water pressure height test in the dam floor,sand soil permeability coeficient test, sand gradation test, and comparing water pressure height in the dam floor and leakage debit by a theoretical calculation and by using a flow net method. The test result showed that water pressure height in the demonstration device was different with the result obtained from the theoretical calculation,but typically the diagram shape was same. The direct leakage debit obtained was 2.254 m3/second while theoretically its leakage debit was 1.280 cm3/second. The result difference was due to hard to maintain water surface height in the demonstrator upper. Sand used was with a good gradation with Cu value = 6 and Cc = 1.041,and k soil permeability = 2.273.103 cm/second.
