Abstract

Creative industry has a huge potential to be developed, supported by the cultural heritage of Indonesian that is batik and weaving. This creative industry is mostly touching and associated with micro, small and medium groups. The role of SMEs is very strategic to create community welfare, improving standards of quality of life and overcoming poverty. The formulation of an appropriate development strategy becomes an important material for small industries to grow in the era of MEA and to support the achievement of creative economic vision 2025 The study was conducted on 17 units of batik SMEs and 19 units of weaving SMEs in Kulon Progo Regency. In this research, we analyze the condition of batik and weaving SMEs based on strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats; to create development strategy for batik and weaving SMEs in Kulon Progo Regency. Descriptive analysis is done by integrating qualitative and quantitative approach. SWOT analysis (Strength Weakness Opportunity Threats) is used to find the right SME development strategy. The results showed that the strategy should be used is market penetration by utilizing the physical distribution channels that are more widely available and the utilization of information technology so that sales can be maximized.
