TINJAUAN PENGGUNAAN BATU APUNG DAN TUMBUKAN GENTENG KERAMIK DENGAN PENGURANGAN BERAT SEMEN TERHADAP KARAKTERISTIK BATAKO RINGAN BERKAIT

Abstract

The objective of this research was to investigate the affect of pumice chips to replace sand in the production of concrete bricks to reduce weight. At the same time, roof tiles crushed into powder form were used to partly substitute Portland cement as binding material in the production of the concrete brick. It was hoped that the twin attempt would result in lighter and stronger concrete bricks. Two types of testing specimens were prepared, namely cubical specimens of 8 cm x 8 cm x 8 cm to be used for the compressive strength tests, and test specimens having the same size and shape of commercial concrete bricks, namely 40 cm x 10 cm x 23 cm. For all the test specimens the sand was fully substituted by pumice chips. The amount of cement reduced by the presence of crushed roof tiles were 0, 10%, 20% and 30%. The result of the experiments showed that substitution of sand aggregate by pumice chips reduced the weight of concreted brick from the typical 14.4 kg to 6.8 kg per piece, namely a weight reduction of 50% to 60%. Among the different combinations on the amount of crushed roof tiles and cement, the specimens with 20% crushed roof tiles produced the highest compressive strength of 5.0 MPa. Specimens which have the best quality is the use of ceramical tiles 20% of collisions with 5.013 MPa compressive streght, water absorption maximum weight of 28.34% and 6.393 kg apiece.
