ALTERNATIF SAMBUNGAN FINGER JOINT PADA BALOK KAYU TERHADAP PENGUJIAN KUAT LENTUR

Abstract

Gording as one of the main parts of timber roof structure often requires a long and continuous timber beam that has to be made by joining two shorter beams. This research was aimed at finding the flexural resistance of finger joint and bibir miring terkait. Two types of testing specimens were prepared, namely single beam, and jointed beam with finger joint and jointed beam with bibir miring berkait. The dimensions of the testing material were 6 cm x 12 cm x 250 cm. For each type, three testing specimens were prepared. The results of the experiments revealed that the average flexural strength of finger joints was 110.628 kg/cm2, substantially larger than those of bibir miring terkait, which showed average flexural strength of 33.661 kg/cm2. The average Modulus of Elasticity of jointed beams with finger joint was 92,331 kg/cm2 while that of bibir miring terkait was 28,664 kg/cm2. From the results of the experiments it could be concluded that finger joint is a suitable technique to join timber beams subjected to flexural load.
